Work Package 3. Chronological control

The aim of work package 3 is to establish the best possible chronological framework for the different palaeo records used within ARCTREC and to achieve the best chronological correlation between these records. This will be done by focusing on detailed tephrochronological studies in both ice cores, and in marine and terrestrial sediment records. WP3 will also ensure the use of consistent and quality controlled AMS 14C age-depth models. To increase the accuracy of marine 14C -chronologies we also plan to use new time-dependent reservoir corrections of 14C ages in marine cores. Better understanding of the temporal relationship of different events between various records provides the foundation for increasing our understanding of the mechanisms behind rapid climate changes.
